Aquarian Minyan Mitzvah Project

The Jewish Federation created a Mitzvah Day and challenged congregations to do a Tikkun Olam project to commemorate September 11th.  We had several projects to choose from and discussed what we wanted to do at our council meeting on September 8th.  We decided that we want to create a project that is longer in scope, not just for Sept. 11th.  The two ideas we discussed were: 1) bringing mobile Shabbats to underserved members of the Jewish community in Berkeley; 2) after school tutoring at one of the high schools in Berkeley.

Hineni, Here I am! answering the call for myself, my community, my world, and the One.

Hineni, Here I am! answering the call for myself, my community, my world, and the One.
This theme was chosen for the 5772 Aquarian Minyan High Holy Days at the Theme Meeting July 5. Miriam Stampfer, Neal Cronin, Faith Zimmerman, Eric Bergman, Debbie Sarnoff, Bob Jaffe, Abigail Grafton, and Shoshana Dembitz brainstormed about the past year in our personal lives, our community, and our world until we arrived at this theme by consensus.

Purim Festival a success

Many Minyanites helped make the joint Renewal Purim festival Saturday night at Kehilla a success. In the Spiel, written by Ed Silberman, Sophie Miron starred as Esther Lou, a Patsy Cline version of Queen Esther with a secret Mexican heritage, Stephanie Brown shone with evil glee as Sarah Palin-Haman who wanted to get rid of all the Mexicans, Ed Silberman as Uncle Morty (Mordechai), Gavri Miron as King Ahasuerus, Karen Broder as Vashti, Hanna Cohen and Miriam Miron Loeb (Lady Gaga) as beauty contestants.
